You’ve heard it before: “If you don’t stand up for something, then you will fall for anything.”
There are certain people that I truly admire, and they are the ones who refuse to say “Yes” to everything because the mass is saying yes, or simply because they are uncomfortable or afraid of “standing out” of the crowd. They feel more comfortable blending in. We see it everyday. Say something, anything, and for the most part most people will agree with you.
There is no questioning. Just agreement. Why? Are we no longer able to think for ourselves, to have our own opinions? Or is it just that it’s much safer to do so. We don’t want to ruffle any feathers – right? I’m not saying to disagree with someone – just for the sake of it. But neither should you just agree because the majority agrees.
I never feel I can trust someone who agrees with everything I say. Have an opinion; we all have one. And don’t be afraid to voice it – in a respectful way of course.
I have a brother who is not afraid to disagree with you if he believes what you did, or what you said is wrong. We have lively conversations where he and I banter back and forth because we believe different things. However, the weird this is – one day he told me in one of our usual conversations, that if he has a problem and he tells my older sister – she will just take his side; if he tells my younger sister, she will take the side of the female – but, if he tells me, I’m going to listen to his story and tell him exactly what I think. If he’s wrong – that’s what I tell him. If he’s right – I tell him that too.
Funny enough, he shared that when he wants to hear the truth – he calls me. Weird right? But people tend to like to hear the real deal. Now, I will agree that some don’t, but if someone only tells you what you want to hear – how can you truly trust them? When someone says “Yes” to everything – how can you ever know what they’re truly thinking?
Make your “Yes” mean yes, and your “No” mean no. Quit following the herd – and create your own path. We were created to make our own choices and to have own own opinions – not to be clones and robots to follow blindly behind anyone who shouts the loudest or carries the biggest stick!
