When “those days” come around… | Chin-Sim | LinkedIn
You know what I mean. “Those days” – the days when you literally “feel” like crap. Sorry – there’s just no better, or – dare I say – cleaner way to say it for it to deliver the same type of impact these “crappy” days deserve!
Sadly, we all have them. One day you can be on the mountaintop – the next – at the bottom of the valley, curled up in a tiny ball feeling sorry for yourself. You don’t have the energy to do anything! And frankly, you really don’t “feel” like doing anything. These are the days when laying around, curled up in a vegetative manner sits just fine with you.
But there is sooooo… much to do! People to meet, places to go, assignments to do, papers to write …. and here is where you start feeling “blah” all over again. You may even find yourself thinking “Who cares? I’ll just do it tomorrow.”
OK – draw brakes!!! As we would say in Jamaica. Don’t ask me why, a lot of what we say make no sense whatsoever. But basically it means – “Stop right there!”
What if that “something” you don’t feel like doing is due tomorrow – otherwise, there could be serious consequences. And if you thought you felt “crappy” today – check out tomorrow when you fail your finals and have to repeat the entire class – AND pay for it again!
Believe it or not -there is something you can do to get out of the “crappy” mood you find yourself in.
Think about it this way. When we “feel” a certain way, we can describe that “feeling” as the “state” we find ourselves in. And, we CAN change our state, by changing how we feel, AND, we can change how we feel, by doing the things that will make us feel better! Whoa!!! That’s a load of “bull” you say! Not really! Let’s give it a try.
Go stand in front of a mirror. “Smile!” No – I mean REALLY smile! Continue to do this until your smile looks somewhat genuine. You know – the one where your eyes light up, and the corners of your mouth turn upwards?
OK – now that you feel a slight change in your mood. Blast your favorite music and let loose! I mean it – literally dance like no one is watching! And if someone does happen to see you – they’ll just think you’re crazy – but that’s their business. Your sole purpose right now is to get yourself into a “state” where you “feel” better!
So by now you should be feeling better. Now talk to yourself. Say – “I feel great!” over and over again. “I am happy!” “I love life!” – whatever it takes to make you feel happy. (By the way – everybody talks to themselves, so you’re in good company just don’t let anyone hear you answering your own questions or you might find yourself in another mess I’m not sure I could rescue you from). Getting “baker-acted” is not a fun experience. I’ve seen people who have, and they don’t look happy ?
Well, hopefully I’ve rescued you from the “crappy” funk you find yourself in. Until next time, stay strong and never give up!
