Anyone who has ever tried to meditate knows how difficult it is to control the thoughts that come to mind unsolicited. Or, are they really unsolicited?
Let’s explore this.
We all know that if we take the time to just – pause – and try to focus on something specific, how difficult this can be. Our mind is always inundated with constant “chatter” – something one neuroscientist describes as being controlled by the right side of our brain. This “chatter” goes on below our awareness and is brought to our attention only when we stop to focus on them. However, whether we stop to focus on them or not, does not negate the fact that these thoughts “chatter” are still there. Now – you may think that because you don’t really pay attention to these thoughts, that they won’t affect you – but you are wrong. Your sub-conscious mind cannot tell the difference between whether these thoughts are real or not real. What that means therefore is, if you are constantly “thinking” negative thoughts, these thoughts are affecting how you feel (your emotions) and how you respond (your behavior). If you stop to think, you will realize that when you’re feeling “down” – you are NOT thinking good, elevating thoughts.
So – in order to understand why you’re feeling, or behaving the way you are; stop and focus on what you are thinking. You will find that your thoughts are responsible for determining your mood, and in turn, your behavior.
Therefore, my suggestion today is to be very aware of what you’re thinking. Because it is only by knowing what your default though process is, that you can make the changes to focus on creating thoughts that will energize and elevate you, instead of debilitate and depress you.
So in the meantime, have a great day! And keep striving to become the best version of yourself possible!
