Our Controlling Desire | Dr. Christine Chin-Sim |
“We will become as small as our controlling desire; or as great as our dominant aspirations!” James Allen
What is your controlling desire? Perhaps I should ask, “Do you have one?” And if you do – is it one where you strive to be the best version of yourself possible – a more fulfilled person? Or is your controlling desire one of constantly bemoaning where you are now, and how you feel powerless to do anything about it?
Now listen carefully. I’m sure I told you this before, but I’ll say it again. We were given the POWER to CHOOSE what we do with our lives. Yes, we can CHOOSE to bitch and complain, or, we can CHOOSE to learn from our mistakes. So quit the pity party and step out into your future!
Easy for you to say – you grumble. Not really. I’ve been in places in my life where I didn’t see where I was stepping, but I stepped out in faith, simply because to remain rooted to where I was meant I would eventually die! No – not necessarily a physical death – but sometimes a physical death is far easier than when your soul slowly dies and you’re actually still walking around in a fog of limbo, between somewhere and nowhere.
I want you to decide now, to CHOOSE a controlling desire that is so seemingly outside your reach, that when you’ve grown into the person that will fulfill that desire – that you would have become the very best version of yourself that we should all strive to be!
Yes – I know sometimes I’m harsh. But sometimes “tough love” is what is necessary to get someone to move. We cannot get to where we want to be, by remaining where we are. C’mon, let’s keep it moving!
Until next time. Walk good ?
Okay – so for my non-Jamaican friends “walk good” loosely means, “Be safe” “God go with you” something along those lines ?
